In the mainly-rural Buyende district of Uganda, there are two rainy seasons and two growing seasons.

The 35 impoverished women of the Twegaite Women's Association work together to plant and harvest from 4-acre plot of rented land. In addition to the rent, the women need seeds and gardening tools to keep their crops weed-free and growing strong.

Their children have begun keeping rabbits as an additional source of nutrition and income.

Uganda also requires a certified scale to sell goods by weight at market to guarantee a fair price.

Your support brings fresh, healthy and inexpensive food to their families and supports their entrepreneurship as they sell their excess at market.

Gardening Tools: $15 USD

20 kg of Seed: $20 USD

Breeding Pair of Rabbits: $30 USD

Share of Farmland: $50 USD

Certified Scale: $100 USD

More information:

In Uganda, 41% of people live in poverty, and almost half of Uganda’s population is under the age of 15, representing one of the youngest populations in the world. Uganda also hosts the largest refugee population in Africa—more than one million refugees have fled their home countries to seek asylum in Uganda. Over the next decade, agricultural development will be a main priority to help improve outcomes for low-income families. Agriculture will also be an increasingly important industry for youth  and refugees to find viable opportunities to earn sustainable livelihoods for themselves.
