In late April, 2022, Stella was abducted along the road while walking home to her village of Njwejwe. When she didn't arrive home as expected, her family feared for her safety, but they couldn't pay for the radio announcements needed to get the word out. Generous donations made it possible.

Within days of publishing announcements in local trading centers, her village leaders were getting phone calls with information and the search effort was refocused to follow the trail, finally resulting in Stella's release and recovery.

Officials agree that the quick community response and published announcements made the difference in recovering Stella safely.

In Stella's honor, Revy has established this fund to make it possible to respond just as quickly to any future incidents of trafficking in the underserved and largely rural Eastern District. Donations to this cause will fund search and recovery efforts of trafficking victims and their subsequent healthcare and therapy.

The average cost of publishing radio announcements in surrounding areas is $300 USD.
Related travel expenses vary, ranging from $50-$100 USD per person/rescue.
Healthcare and rehabilitation costs following recovery vary, ranging from $25-$50 per treatment.

In Uganda, 41% of people live in poverty, and almost half of Uganda’s population is under the age of 15, representing one of the youngest populations in the world. Uganda also hosts the largest refugee population in Africa—more than one million refugees have fled their home countries to seek asylum in Uganda. Over the next decade, agricultural development will be a main priority to help improve outcomes for low-income families. Agriculture will also be an increasingly important industry for youth  and refugees to find viable opportunities to earn sustainable livelihoods for themselves.
